The Body in Pain

Home: Welcome

How do we render legible the interiority of the experience of pain?

How do we make external what is internal?

Is it true that pain is both absolutely unique and infinitely sharable?

What are the ways in which trauma is able to imprint on us emotionally and manifest that imprint physically?

Are my scars a product of my healing?

Am I a product of my healing?

Are scars merely physical imprints of pain?

Or are they its aftereffects?

Can they be both?

How I may encounter my pain differs from how you may encounter yours.

How does my pain impact me?

How does your pain impact you?

How do we render legible the interiority of the experience of pain?

An in depth exploration into the relationship between repetitive behaviours and aspects of abjection that are present within both Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Eating Disorders, and other forms of mental illness through the use of food, weaving, sculpture and  performativity. This explorative process will make use of these mediums in order to conceptualise and materialize the aforementioned concepts in relation to mental illness, ritualization of repetitive behaviours, religion, the body, fear foods, nudity, and mental distortion of the physical body.
